Once Upon a Time
Tonight I told our story again, and found I had forgotten many bits of it. Disjointed, it took some searching, like neglected puzzle pieces, before the picture made sense to the uninitiated.
Tonight I met someone who lives in wonder, whose aspiration is to "endure life with joy", a statement that recognises the inevitability of hardship in life, yet persists in believing that there is room for hope through it all.
Tonight she remembers that she forgot to forgive herself, and reminded me of who I am.
Who I am now looks a lot like the I you found a hundred different ways to say goodnight to, once upon a time.
Remember what I said about the essence of person? It is the core that does not change.
The me you loved was the me I loved.
